Food-borne diseases

We have all heard stories of the dangers eating food in foreign countries can cause. Follow these simple steps to help protect yourself:

  • Eat roasting hot food where possible
  • Spicy foods do not lessen the risk of contamination!
  • Don't eat cold foods - avoid salads, particularly lettuce
  • Never eat undercooked shellfish (mussels, oysters, clams, prawns etc)
  • Ensure that meat dishes are well cooked
  • Eat fruit that you can peel yourself (oranges, bananas etc)
  • Don't eat food from street vendors
  • Eat in busy, clean restaurants
  • Wash you hands before you eat and stick with food you recognise.
